When I was a kid, my two sisters and I loved to watch fairy tales. We would sit for hours and watch them on TV, then move on to "eenie meenie meiny moe" to decide the roles of each girl so we could act one of them out.
Our absolute favorite fairy tale story was and always has been Cinderella. We loved the story about how the kind-hearted person won in the end - teaching us a valuable lesson that evil will get you nowhere. Keeping a kind heart and gentle ways may be a harder road but there is a pot of gold at the end of it.
We would ALWAYS watch Faerie Tale Theatre version with Shelley Duvall, starring Jennifer Beals, Matthew Broderick and Jean Stapleton. Cinderella was our favorite, but all of the Faerie Tale Theatre productions were close to our hearts.
Great news - they are now available on DVD!! We plan to buy the set for our 7-month-old daughter for Christmas. Too young to appreciate them, but when she gets older I want her to enjoy the same thing I did when I was her age. I also plan on buying them for my sisters as surprises for their baby showers. They will be so excited!!
The first one of the group I'll watch? Of course, Cinderella.
